AOBE ENDORSES FRANKIE

The Association of Brownsville Educators (AOBE), along with the Texas State Teachers Association (TSTA) and the National Education Association (NEA), have spoken loud and clear: "We support Frankie Olivo for Position 2 on the Brownsville Independent School District (BISD) Board of Trustees.

With hundreds of members locally and thousands of members nationally, these three powerful entities have one top priority: "We will do everything within our democracy to protect and promote our educators and their support staffs."

Olivo is facing young businessman Jaime Diez and San Benito clerk Denise Garza. When AOBE counted the votes of its members, Olivo had received 76% of the total. Diez captured second place, but Garza, who called AOBE corrupt and insisted that a higher-ed diploma wasn't important, didn't receive one vote.

"Ignorance is not rewarded by intelligent people," said a retired BISD teacher who served the district with distinction for four decades. "AOBE wants educated, young, professional and independent thinkers making decisions. It was an easy selection. Olivo is educated; Garza isn't. Olivo is young; Garza isn't; Olivo is a professional; Garza is a bureaucrat. Olivo is an independent thinker; Garza is a puppet."

When AOBE's leadership, comprised of Veronica Borrego, Micaela Escobar, Laura Rosenbaum and Elizabeth Torres, totaled the results and released the figures, El Brownsville Void Publisher Booby Witless-Cervezas threatened these four women with a "blood bath" if they didn't reverse the results because the disbarred lawyer didn't agree with them. Instead, they reported him to the Brownsville Police Department. The authorities brought Witless-Cervezas's outburst to the blogger's attention and he crawled back to his hovel like a castrated stallion who had been reduced to a filly.

"At The McHale Report, we have endorsed Olivo," said Scott Steinbeck, the blog's managing editor. "Diez has potential, but at 24 years of age, he is simply too young. Garza's claim to fame is running the concession stand for the West Brownsville Little League. Does this even qualify as a qualification? Everybody knows that she has been recruited by the special interests who want BISD Police Chief Oscar Garcia fired. She has no agenda except to take orders from the powers behind the throne.

"Olivo is finishing his Master's and has been State District Court Judge Elia Cornejo-Lopez administrative aide for years where he has received high marks for his professionalism. Once an outstanding linebacker and catcher for the Hanna Eagles, he hosts two popular podcasts, one political, the other sports. Like all young people, he has made his mistakes, but in the process he has learned valuable lessons that only the school of hard knocks can teach you and he has evolved into a role model for today's youth. It is not difficult to understand the reasons AOBE, TSTA and NEA are campaigning so arduously for him."
