CASTRO y ELOIZONDO

Alexander Hamilton was against the popular vote. He said that the country could not entrust its leadership to the whims of an ignorant people. He was right as Donald Trump has demonstrated. Thousands of Americans have lost their lives and millions of others have lost their jobs during his first term. Though our democracy has generally stood us in good stead, how is it possible that it gave us the traitorous and incompetent Trump?

We don't need to go any further to comprehend this phenomenon than to scrutinize the candidacies of the nincompoops Erasmo "El Queso" Castro and Carlos "El Cobarde" Elizondo. Bums in their professional lives (We are assuming they still have professional lives), they are both running again for the Brownsville Independent School District (BISD) Board of Trustees. Their first terms didn't end well.

Castro was prohibited from stepping on campuses and attending school district activities for his dubious comportment as a trustee. He finally resigned in ignominy when the police discovered him inebriated in his crashed car and jailed him.

Elizondo, who was fired as Brownsville's Fire Chief and has been in and out of court facing a barrage of felony charges, finished in last place when he sought reelection to the board. With his wife a BISD counselor and his daughters BISD students, their interests were his top priority.

One would think based on the preceding evidence that they wouldn't merit any consideration. They are Brownsville at its worst. They relish gutter politics. But Hamilton warned us: The electorate is ignorant. At The McHale Report we would add that the electorate is stupid.

Castro and Elizondo, the ringleaders of Los Buitres, head a slate designed to pick the BISD's bones that include a $550 million budget and 7000 jobs. You can be a big fish in one of the city's polluted resacas if you are one of seven members dishing out multi-million-dollar contracts whose recipients oftentimes are generously grateful for your vote.

And Castro and Elizondo think they are a pair of seven-foot gar slithering through the town's murky waters. Castro and Elizondo are bottom-feeders. They attack like piranha. They have the insatiable appetites of sharks.

Like Trump, they appeal to the populace's base instincts. They exploit dissatisfaction with false promises. Like Trump, they portray government as bad although, like Trump, they want to control government. In case you missed the point the first time, government in the form of the BISD is a $550 million budget and 7000 jobs.

Like Trump, Castro and Elizondo accuse those in power of corruption. They pontificate from their makeshift pedestals that they are going to clean the swamp. But like Trump, they are products of the swamp. More accurately, they are products of the sewer. Like Trump, they are adept at fashioning convincing arguments that in the end are facades of false facts, but even smart people can be fooled and they fall for these fraudsters.

We elected Trump and we are paying a gruesome price. Is it possible there are still sufficient buffoons to reelect him???!!! Have our sins been so great that God has decided that we must spend four more years in purgatory in order to cleanse our black souls?

We elected Castro and Elizondo once and they were abject losers. Haven't we learned? Are there so many ignoramuses and idiots among us that in their brainless gullibility they would make winners out of this pair of swindlers and scoundrels? Perhaps. These were the same dull-witted lemmings who elected Trump, Castro and Elizondo the first time.
