Like Trump, South Padre Island Republicans don't want to accept responsibility. From Roma to Brownsville, we have all made mistakes and as a region we all must take responsibility.

The SPI Republicans, however, are beyond reproach in their own estimation. We know that Trump is a blowhard who isn't tough. His hordes of haters are bullies who are really 98-pound weaklings. Their outrage rings hollow.

We can only hope that come November we can teach them a lesson and then rub salt into the wound by adding two more stars to the flag with Puerto Rico and Washington D.C. attaining statehood and assuring the Senate of four more Democratic senators.

Just like the Union had to put the Confederacy out of its memory, it's time the Democrats put the Republicans out of their misery.

In history there are events that change the sequence of time, the birth of Jesus Christ the most obvious example. But in communities, nations and the world there are occurrences that will serve as a reference point in the lives of individuals. There is the before and after of the earthquake.
