FRANKIE GETS ENDORSEMENT

The Association of Brownsville Educators (AOBE) has endorsed state district court administrator Frankie Olivo for Position 2. The former Hanna baseball and basketball star, who is pursuing has Master's, received 76% of the vote from the organization that is comprised of employees from janitors to teachers, from gardeners to coaches.

Businessman Jaime Diez garnered 13% while 11% passed on all the candidates. Denise Garza, who works as a clerk in San Benito, accused AOBE of corruption by insinuating that it was in the back pocket of certain candidates and the endorsements were preordained. As a result of her accusations and denunciations, it shouldn't have come as a surprise that she didn't receive any support from the BISD faithful.

"Frankie is the most educated of the three, so his selection is a logical result," said a retired BISD educator. "Jaime is only 24 years old. As a Catholic school product, he has no roots in the school district and has just returned to the border after finishing his university education.

"Denise acts as if she weren't accountable and basically told AOBE to take its forums and questionnaires and shove them. She was metaphorically spitting in the faces of BISD educators over whom she wants to hold authority.

"She doesn't consider AOBE a player in the outcome. She is confident that the female vote will carry her to an easy victory against the two males. Therefore, she feels no obligation to be transparent. Her arrogance toward her colleagues in the business of education is without a doubt disturbing."

Among the three, Olivo has been campaigning the hardest. Diez seems to be going through the motions while Garza feels it is beneath her knuckles to knock at doors. Unlike any of the other political institutions in the city, the BISD only requires a plurality to win a seat.
