JUAN/DP-M

JUAN MONTOYA: "We notice that Dr. G.F. McHale-Scully, the publisher of The McHale Report, has been very selective about picturing his political enemies – or non-ad buyers – in orange jump suits, but not his nephew. This is so intellectually dishonest that it goes beyond the pale of poetic or journalistic license. If accountability and transparency are demanded by any candidate from other candidates, then it should apply to everyone who runs for public office."

(EDITOR'S NOTE: It must be a terrible burden to carry around principles. It must be an even more horrible burden to shoulder convictions. Juan Montoya, whose professional reporting and writing talents reduce his former colleague /DP-M at The Brownsville Herald to amateur status, is Brownsville's last-standing Chicano. He is a walking Cesar Chavez while his McAllen buddy is more of a John Cowen disguised as a Mexican-American. The publisher of the award-winning El Rrun Rrun doth protest too much. Like any blogger who comprehends the art, Juan has never sullied his prose with objectivity. Why? Because there is no such thing as objectivity. Are Fox and CNN objective? Of course not! Are The Washington Post and The Washington Examiner objective? Of course not. An individual must access various sources before reaching an informed decision on an issue. Brownsville is lucky to have so many blogs with opinions, sympathies and biases that stretch the entire spectrum. The trouble with both Juan and /DP-M is that they are old school. They think of themselves as journalists when journalism no longer exists. We contend that if objectivity is the foundation of journalism, then journalism has never existed. And when it comes to blogging, journalism is a facade. Blogging is about total freedom. We can write truths, lies, rumors, fiction and exploit any other genre that suits our purposes. We are entertainers. We are conduits of information. Journalism is for those at the bottom of the ladder. Real bloggers are performance artists. We have the skills and we use them to improvise. We abuse this blank screen to extemporize. Whatever Juan posts, we read. Whatever /DP-M posts, we read. Whatever the other bloggers post, we read. Then we reach our own conclusions. At The McHale Report, we are mindful of the audience. More importantly, we are mindful of ourselves. If our own creations fulfill us, we know that there are readers who share our vision. And those who start pulling out their hair in a woebegone fury, we know that we've hit the bull's eye. We find it amusing that Juan and /DP-M sit on their imaginative thrones and like King Solomon arbitrate between right and wrong. ¡Ya con el puro pedo, cabrones! You both need to stay on your bar stools and cut that Palm Lounge burger in half. And I'll buy the bucket.)
