MAX ENDORSES JOE

Max Maxwell walked into Mi Pueblito with a big smile on his face. Rick Lepre, a baseball and a softball icon in BISD lore, was on his fourth margarita. He was only getting started. His son would pick him up in two hours. There was some serious drinking to be done. Maxwell, the dean of the Rio Grande Valley sportswriters, ordered a double shot of tequila and a Modelo.

"I wish Roy Hess were here," said Maxwell through a tight grin about the much-loved sports scribe who recently passed away.

"Why?" asked Lepre.

"Joe won!"

"What?"

"That old SOB is defying the odds."

"Are you saying he snared the AOBE endorsement?" continued an incredulous Lepre.

"He damn well did!" answered Maxwell as he threw back the double shot.

"What were the numbers?" inquired Lepre who is organizing the 'Coaches for Coach" movement to lead the crusade in electing Rodriguez to the school board.

"Joe received 45% of the support," responded Maxwell. "Marisa Leal came in second with 43% and 12% took a pass."

"And chatterbox Minerva Peña?"

"Nada.

"Nada!?!?"

"Ella es una pinche zero. Nada!"

Now the journey for Rodriguez begins in earnest. Rodriguez's strength is that he has many Maxwells and Lepres in his corner. They are all excited about the Last Hurrah!
