STILLMAN

Ultimately, history is based on facts, not myths. Charles Stillman is regarded as Brownsville's Founding Father. This gives the wrong impression. Charles Stillman was Brownsville's Founding Rapist. With people throughout the South rising to topple statues commemorating the Confederacy, the time has come to expose Stillman as a blatant blackguard.

From the comments received from The McHale Report's readership, there is a growing sentiment that the time has come for this community to stop honoring a dishonorable man. The citizenry's disgust with Stillman appears unanimous. Here is a sampling of The McHale Report's mail:

Citizen #1: Stillman was a racist. Stillman was a slaveholder. Why is the BISD dedicating a school to this wretched human being? Is the BISD saying that niggers are not welcomed in the school district?

Citizen #2: We need to spread the blame. The BISD isn't the only culpable entity. The city has named a museum after him and moved his love shack in front of the federal building. We are paying homage to a man who sold his soul to the devil.

Citizen #3: Charles Stillman betrayed the United States of America. Brownsville is filled with traitors. That is the reason we are called the Third World Capital of the United States. Does Stillman reign as a role model for the likes of Eddie "Panocha" Trevino?

Citizen #4: Brownsville is ignorant, impoverished and corrupt. Why? Because Stillman condemns Brownsville to ignorance, impoverishment and corruption.

Citizen #5: Is Donald "Dick" Trump the reincarnation of Charles Stillman?

Citizen #6: According to blogger Juan Montoya, Stillman was not only a slaveholder and a traitor; he was a serial adulterer.

Citizen #7: We should change Charles Stillman Middle School to Juan Cortina Middle School. Stillman stole from the people. Cortina fought for the people.

Citizen #8: African-Americans don't tolerate symbols of the Confederacy. Why are Mexican-Americans so damn apathetic when it comes to defying those individuals who subjugated them?

Citizen #9: If Charles Stillman were alive today, he would be a UT Regent and Julieta "La Santissima" Garcia would be his movida.

Citizen #10: Brownsville will never progress until it confronts its sordid history and exorcise the demon Charles Stillman.

But in communities, nations and the world there are occurrences that will serve as a reference point in the lives of individuals. There is the before and after of the earthquake. JASON MOODY SITS FOR INTERVIEW

Jason "The Jackal" Moody, the new public information officer for the Brownsville Independent School District (BISD), is well-known in political circles.
