WHY DO I BLOG?

Why does Jose "El Muckraker" Montoya publish El Puro Pedo? Why does Booby Witless-Cervezas publish the Brownsville Void? Why does Tim "Balls" Best publish Mean Mister Brownsville? Why does /AB-C publish The Banana Republic. Why does Diego Garcia III publish The Matamoros Mirror? Why do I publish The McHale Report? Because we're cursed!

A superior being relegated us to keeping Brownsville accountable. This is not a high calling. Do you think we enjoy covering the likes of the county judge and the rest of these ingrates cluttering our minds?

We should be writing poetry, short stories, novels. Instead, we occupy the lowly rank of The Brownsville Herald of the blogs.

I remember sitting in a Tampico bar and a man took a seat next to me and said that if I ever wanted a teaching job, Brownsville was desperate for applicants. Why didn't he say New York City or Miami? When a superior being condemns you to hard labor, there's not much you can do but accept your sentence.

GROOVIN' ON A SUNDAY AFTERNOON

In history there are events that change the sequence of time, the birth of Jesus Christ the most obvious example. But in communities, nations and the world there are occurrences that will serve as a reference point in the lives of individuals. There is the before and after of the earthquake. There is the before and after of the flood.  And there is the before and after of the war. As we know from personal deaths in our own families, existence subsequently changes forever. For me there will be the Coronavirus before and after. As a baby boomer, I escaped Vietnam because the country sent white trash, ghetto blacks and barrio Mexicans to do the fighting while we middle-class white boys partied through college. JASON MOODY SITS FOR INTERVIEW

Jason "The Jackal" Moody, the new public information officer for the Brownsville Independent School District (BISD), is well-known in political circles. He has advised scores of candidates who, in the end, have usually lost to Rodrigo Moreno's Pink Ape aspirants.
